HHI: A Hotel Chain Studded With Nostalgia

A blog on the HHI, Kolkata always tends to write an ode to either of its two restaurants: Kalash and Oriental Express. This tendency conveys the undertones of a Bacchanalian writer; however, it would be nothing short of a folly to judge the writer in this fashion. After all, the HHI’s hotel is one of those hotels in Kolkata that presents one delicious reason after another for guiding the brains towards the act of selecting one’s favorite dish; for example, the ‘Lahori Aloo’ in Kalash or the ‘Yakitori Tutu’ in the Oriental Express.
A look at the details of the menu of the Oriental Express does quite a bit of justice towards proving the helplessness of the brain!

Dumplings have always been favorites among a large number of people irrespective of nationality. A person at the Oriental Express gets the chance to enjoy the succulent ‘Dimsum’, which, technically, is a chicken-based dumpling but stuffed with veggies and accompanied with a variety of dips.

Tofu has always been associated with the Ming dynasty of China and the Japanese Samurai. The latter according to a large number of folklore preferred tofu-based dishes for their lunch and dinner. At the Oriental Express, if a samurai were to drop in, then he would feel completely at home due to the presence of the ‘Chicken Takrai’ – a dish created out of battered tofu, chicken, basil, garlic, and an ingredient called ‘holy basil’ drooped in a tangy and extremely spicy sauce.

The Oriental Express also provides sushi in an assorted platter through their bento boxes. It provides a total of four bento boxes:

o Vegetable bento box
o Oriental non-vegetarian bento box
o Vegetarian Sushi bento box
o Non-vegetarian Sushi bento box

In addition to the Oriental Express, the number of eateries present in the hotels in Kolkata serve a negligible fan following. Again the HHI, Kolkata scores absolutely high over its brethren in this regard.
